A Peek into the Printers Drawer

When reading up on ideas given for organizing bead storage solutions, Lorelei's comment about no more baggies really stuck with me. I had piles of baggies that I would try to sort through on top of my bead table when I was trying to put something together and it just wasn't working. I needed something that would keep them from rolling off the table but remain in view while I decided on the next design element. Now I'll be honest, Lorelei's studio makes me covetous. I want to curl up under one of her tables and wait till she goes to sleep and then come out and go through all her beads, hunched over and cackling with glee.
But I think that's illegal so I just went and got my own printers drawer.....

And I filled it with my own treasures!
There are 103 little compartments and I am going to show you a compartment each Monday.
I'll tell you where I got the bead(s) or how I made them, what plans I have for them and why I like them so much I pulled them out of the plastic baggie stuffed into the nuts-n-bolts drawer and placed them in the premiere spot of the antiqued printers drawer.
A Peek into the Printers Drawer.
Doesn't that sound fun?

Thank you, Lorelei, for your constant inspiration!

  2. Oh! I also would like some printers drawers. Creates a nice feeling with the wood an all. Do you have a chest of drawers or? I am in the process of rearranging my own beads. Colourwise it shall be.
I am looking forward to follow this series of posts every monday. Wonderful!

  3. Hi Shannon, That sounds like a really fun idea for a series! Nos, my stash is nothing like Lorelei's but I do have the best cabinet ever - and my hubby found it. It's a massive printers cabinet with 20 drawers, 96 compartments to each, solid oak, 275lbs! The outside was a bit rough so I spent last summer stripping and refinishing it, near as I can tell it's from 1905 or so. I just had a baby though, so for the time being my poor stash is hidden away getting no love

I am still giggling, imagining you hiding out under one of my tables, and secretly pouring over my beads. :)

  8. I just bought a printer's drawer this weekend!

Can't find a whole cabinet and probably couldn't afford it anyway, but there are drawers floating around on craisglist etc from those memory box things people used to do - so I bought one and will be storing it under my sofa to use for coffee table beading! I think I can even stack 2, so I'll be scouting for another!

  10. Love being able to see everything out in the open like that! (of course I'd end up tipping it over on the floor somehow!)

  11. Ooh, that sounds great! And I'd love to have such a drawer too. I begin to detest all my baggies...

  12. Hilarious, Shannon. I will meet you under the table at 11:02pm sharp! Shhh...don't tell Lorelei!

I have a printer's cabinet with 21 drawers. I am trying to rid myself of baggies as well. I just moved the entire studio around and removed one whole table (okay, I added a tall wooden one that will make for a great hammering and etching station, but I can't see the top!). I look forward to seeing what is in your cubbies, as it will inspire me to use mine!
    Enjoy the day!

  22. OOOH!!! Love love love the rustic printer boxes!!! I use the plastic fishing tackle boxes, since I tend to have a mobile studio.. I'd MUCH prefer the wooden boxes. GREAT idea on the series!! Can't wait to see what you show us!! :)

  26. You Lucky Duck! I've been looking for those printers drawers for a bit. Will have to scour more Antique shops I guess. Doug could make me something similar if I wanted (and he had time) but there is nothing cooler than the look of wood that has aged naturally. Looking forward to Peeking into the Printer's Drawers... sounds pretty naughty actually!

  27. Aha! so that is what they are, somehow I missed the fact that they were printer drawers, now I know what to look for, though I was planning to customise some wooden cutlery trays, I'll have to see which one is cheaper.

I can't wait to see your peek posts (sounds so naughty). And thanks for the mental picture of you hiding under Lorelei beading tables and cackling with glee... my imagination is warped enough as it is without added help from you great story tellers ;)

    Keep sweet.
