Rust Inspiration

I do not think she knew at the time, but some how in our various correspondence, Miss Penny Sparrow issued a challenge. And now I am hell bent on rising to the occasion.

I shall create rust.

(But it will be safe to wear as art.)

Yep, you heard it right!
The first piece of awesome news to share is that I have been invited to contribute to Art Bead Scene.
My first post was put up today so please visit me here.
While a little nervous to be a part of something so special, I am excited for the opportunity to share what I know of beading, bead making and mixed media jewelry.  I have so many ideas that are busting out of my head, I need for more then one outlet to express them! Please share with me ideas you would like to see as posts: jewelry designs, techniques you would like to conquer and inspiration you would love to pass on. I welcome any advise and suggestions you may have.
Thank you to Heather and the rest of Art Bead Scene for having the likes of me included in the awesomeness that is Art Bead Scene.

  1. I love rust. Can't wait to see what you create!

  2. I dont know if it will be safe but whatever rust comes out of your studio will Art for sure! Rusty edgy, Artsy! Lovin' the inspiration pics!

  3. I LOVE RUST! You should see my idea book, where I find photos I like and keep them, it is filled with photos of old rusty trucks. I have been trying to make glazes that look like rust for my cylinders.
I love the pictures you selected and I can't wait to see what you come up with.
Congrats again about becoming a member of ABS, that is so awesome! I read you first post and it was great!

  4. Congrats on the addition to The Art Bead Scene...I read your post...very good!

  5. Hi Kiddo,

There are patina products made by Sophisticated Finishes that make an awesome "rusting" medium. You use black paint that has iron filings suspended in it. When that is dry you paint the piece with the rust antiquing solution. And waa laa rust in a few minutes!!!! It will work on any thing!!! I have rusted plastic frozen charlottes!! They look and feel just like rusted iron except they are light weight like plastic. When the rust looks the way I want I spray a coat of matte clear spray on the piece. Just like real rust it will rub off on clothing & skin if not covered. If I'm rusting something not being worn I don't spay it. Here is their web site: Check it out they even have a medium that will make verdigris!! If you want to visit drop me a line :)

  6. I saw the ABS announcement - congrats! You will make an excellent (and rusty!) addition to the team!

  7. Congrats - and I'm looking forward to
read more post of you at ABS

    regards Stefanie

  8. Rust is wonderful. So is vertigris, fire scale and all forms of oxidisation. It is rather like wrinkles in us humans. Adds character and tells our story. Congratulations on being a contributor to Art Bead Scene and thanks for your kind words on my blog

  9. I was already a fan of your work before you joined ABS - really enjoyed your post this morning and look forward to more.

The part of your work that appeals to me the most is that it is quirky and funky. I would love to hear more about what inspires you (although rust is pretty great), plus techniques e.g., how t hook up your cool funky chain bits to toggles, etc so they work bu don't necessarily match. I am always interested when people share projects. But my favourite is when there are contests and loyal readers can win neat stuff.

No matter what you include in your blog and on ABS, I will keep reading.

  10. I love the collage, and the theme. One more thing to figure out how to do on the computer.

  11. I don't think I can permit this rusting business- you already have far too much gorgeousness that I want to buy, and now you offer me rust? Shameless.

I've never seen the ABS blog before- it's amazing! You really inspire me, not only with your patina work but in the way that I've decided something big. I'll blog about it later!

  12. Hi its been a busy 10 days or so and I'm just catching up on everyone's blogs that I follow.

I look forward to seeing your rust creations, I'm sure they'll turn out fabulous.

I'mm off to catch up on your other posts.

  13. Thank you so much for your visit and kind comment. I am so happy that I found you...I love the work you are doing and the combos you are finding...Thanks again

  14. Congrats on being part of the ABS. I love this rusty photo collage. Makes me want to find some rust to photograph and send to you! It is going to be fun to see what you come up with for new beads.

  15. How wonderful to have you be part of the ABS and of our blogging links group! And btw, I LOVE rust. I leave bits and bobs outside all winter to do it the old fashioned way, and I help it along chemically in the basement whenever I can get away with it ;-)

  16. Hello there!
I'm new to your blog, but I'm loving everything I'm checking out. You are so talented, and I love that we have the same type of sense of humor :D

Thanks for visiting Eve's House! You are always welcomed! I look forward to learning from you when it comes to lovely jewelry. And Big Congrats on your ABS beginnings!

  17. Congrats on your new ties with Art Bead Scene...I enjoyed your first post! And what an inspiring collection of sad that the one barn was torn down since the photo was taken. At least it was captured and will now be remembered and admired.

  18. Yay, rust! And congrats on your ABS debut!

Thank you for taking the time to read and comment on my blog, it means a lot to me.
