Weathered Barn Swallow

I am really pleased with this batch of bird pendants.
I wanted a batch of components that complimented the weathered brass chain that people seem to like so much. I hunted down a brass stamping I could wreck with patinas and combine them with links and more weathered chain.

Still not sure which beads I would pair with them although Mary Harding's tumbled stoneware would be a lovely partnership.
(she has assured me they will be available soon)
*UPDATE* Oh. My. Lawd! Mary is having a sale! Right Now!
Go here before my resolve weakens and I buy beads instead of paying off my dental bill.

Maybe contrast is in order? Orange? Brown?

I haven't been able to reeeealy shop beads for specific projects. I know, the injustice of life I have to contend with. What would you do with the swallow fella? Pretty him up or continue with rustic?

  3. really lovely! That is my favorite color of patina I would string the bird onto a chain of the same color and leave it at that. Worn long over a black tank or dress could be just lovely!

  5. I like him just the way he is. And I would add some softer stones like pearls in that gray green color. But one pop of color. I am feeling something in the orange range.

I really want to try my hand at your patinas Shan. I was so excited to see what Mary Jane and LeAnn have done. I have some ideas that I think will work if I can find the time (and buy your patinas, of course ;-)

Thanks for sharing your beauty with us. You are a beautiful soul who shines through (in a rustic way of course).

    Enjoy the day!

  6. Gorgeous! I'd continue with the rustic look. You do that so well. My temptation would be to add in some browns, just because I like blue and brown. And maybe a spot or two of deep garnet colours/beads for accent.

  7. I think I would most likely continue with Rustic! He would be the focal of a multi-strand necklace! I can see maybe a handwoven nest on the side somewhere...

I love it! I was going to get him this morning, when I put in my order, but I will just have to wait until I have a few more sales. Frustrating when you have to wait!! lol
Hugs! Keep up the great work!!

  10. I'm thinking, I'm thinking! I love that swallow! I would use some of the weathered chain for sure. Can't tell if that reddish/brownish color is more of a rust shade or brass, but some of that, and maybe i have some opals that would look good for contrast. Macarroll's beads, wow, they'll be sold out. My final answer will require more perusing. You have brought out another fresh and beautiful idea, Shannon!

  13. Since the bird is so nice and large, I'm thinking non jewelry uses. I think it would look nice attached to a weathered wood welcome sign with some of the chain to hang the sign.

  14. Rustic for sure. I would add some holes on either end of him for a multi-strand necklace with chain being one of the strands and red for a pop of color.

  15. Rustic for sure.....birds are my fav, this patina color is my fav. Maybe combine him with some rustic beads like you have shown and silk, fabric for nesting....!

  16. Barn swallows really deserve an homage as the sweetest amd most social of birds. They used to come into my parent's cottage by the sea, sit on the fishingrods and sing to the sound of the radio.
