Kitchen Finishing

Just in case you wonder why I am not on the computer much. :)

  1. I sure do appreciate the videos. I've heard about dipping in the sealer but actually seeing it in action makes a world of difference. One question: The metal facing the cardboard doesn't stick?

    1. Hi! Yes, it can stick after I have used the same piece of cardboard for over 4 coats. The cardboard stops absorbing after that point and the wet lacquer adheres to the dry pooled lacquer on top of the cardboard.
      I replace the cardboard with each new batch of metal.

    2. Thanks for the response. I didn't realize that fresh cardboard was the secret.

  2. Shannon, Thank you so much for sharing the more tedious parts of jewelry making!

  3. Great tutorials! Finishing is SO time consuming and messy. I would almost say that I hate it, except when the warm copper or shiny silver peaks through...reward!!

  6. I use mixed media stainless shot in my tumbler...it is making me tired just watching you with that steel wool. Send me your address and I'll send you enough for one tumbler (free). I use a drop of Dawn original (no bleach)with the shot. I bought a pound of shot (or something like that) and only use half of what I bought - it lasts for years!

    1. Thank you, Lois! I have shot that makes it shiny, but I love the look of brush finish!

  9. Hi Shannon,

    so lovely to see you.. you must be really patient. ^^

    What kind of ClearGuard do you use? It looks more like water.

    My lacquer (not ClearGuard) is so thick, I couldn´t even dip and shake it.

    Lots of love

    1. Hi Minze! Thank you for your kind words!
      Some lacquers can be thinned with acetate, but I do not know enough about this to help you do that with your current batch. I wonder if the manufacture can recommend how to thin it?

      Here is the lacquer I have been using;

  11. I just discovered your new post! Thanks so much for the glimpse into the real world of Missficklemedia! It's so good of you to spend the time making videos and sharing the finer points of successful finishing. Anyone who watches this will learn a lot. the cardboard boxes I have been using with the spray lacquer all seem to have a wax coating, so sticking isn't a problem, but if the pieces are dipped, it wouldn't absorb any pooling. Very interesting info about the mixed media shot, too. Anything you do, Shannon, is so worth it when the end result is obtained. Love those earrings with the orange. Thanks for your diligent efforts!
